GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Meijer Pharmacy Compliance Director and HIPAA Privacy Officer Charlie Mollien was recently named Board Chair of the Michigan Board of Pharmacy, an 11-member board responsible for protecting Michiganders by assisting the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) in its mission to keep Michigan residents safe and improve their health through regulation and licensing required for pharmacy practice and the manufacturing and distribution of prescription drugs and devices that are prescribed, dispensed, and administered to patients.

“We could not be happier for Charlie to be named Board Chair of the Michigan Board of Pharmacy. He will passionately serve the people of Michigan,” said Jason Beauch, Vice President of Pharmacy for Meijer. “Charlie is well deserving of this appointment and we are proud of him for this achievement.”

Mollien started his pharmacy career as a Meijer pharmacy technician. Today, he’s a pharmacist-attorney and leads regulatory oversight of Meijer’s pharmacy and specialty pharmacy operations. He also oversees pharmacy privacy regulations as the HIPAA Privacy Officer. Mollien was appointed to the Michigan Board of Pharmacy in May 2018 by Gov. Rick Snyder at the advice and consent of the Senate and was elected by its members to serve as chair in August 2019.

“It’s a privilege to serve as the Chair of the Michigan Board of Pharmacy,” Mollien said. “As a long-standing member of the pharmacy community, this position provides me with the opportunity to help advance the board’s purpose to protect Michigan residents, while also further contributing to pharmacy practice.”

In this role, you will see Mollien lead the board’s public meetings. In the background, he will ensure the board’s work is completed through its committees, assist other board members with their responsibilities, and carry out requirements assigned through disciplinary actions taken against licensees who have adversely affected the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
