About Meijer

Customer experience, quality products, a commitment to community and a respect for team members are the basic philosophies that guided Hendrik Meijer in 1934 when he opened the first Meijer store out of his barber shop in Greenville, Mich.

Those core values remained at the heart of our company as it evolved through the years and still continue to guide us. Today, Meijer remains a privately-owned and family-operated company with more than 245 stores and employs more than 70,000 team members in six Midwestern states.

Meijer is more than just the pioneer of the “one-stop shopping” concept. It's a family company committed to meeting the needs of other families by offering choices that include more than 600 types of fresh produce, a place to pick up your child's prescription without leaving the comfort of your car and supporting the communities where its customers and team members work and live.

Meijer also supports a wide variety of nonprofit organizations by donating more than 6 percent of our net profit to charity each year, and sponsoring hundreds of community events.

As Meijer continues to grow, we will remain true to the simple philosophy of our founder: “… take care of your customers, team members, and community … and all of those will take care of you, just like a family.”
