Some may proclaim Oberon Day as the happiest day of the year. Well, it's about to get much happier! The team at Meijer Bakery is creating special Oberon-inspired cookies, cupcakes and donuts that will be available in all of the retailer's Michigan locations for a limited time. The doughnuts and the cookies are decorated using those familiar colors of light blue, orange and dark blue. There is no beer used in making any of these products.

The Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give will make its return to Blythfield Country Club this June and more than 700 volunteers are sought for the golf tournament. Officials said registration is open for support personnel for the annual event that runs June 12-17.
Meijer announced it’s looking to fill 300 positions at its new location near Hudsonville. The retailer said it’s looking for candidates to work in all departments for its new store located at 4075 32nd Avenue in Jamestown Township. The available positions range from cake decorators to customer service.
It's a big year for Marco Bulnes, a 43-year-old immigrant from Honduras. He has inked a deal with Midwest retail giant Meijer and plans to film the movie, "Season of Rage" with 'Machete' actor Danny Trejo in Grand Rapids. His coffee shop, Mayan Buzz Cafe, was selected out of more than 12 contenders for a location in Bridge Street Market, Meijer's much anticipated first small format store on Grand Rapids' West Side.
Meijer VP of Digital Shopping and Ecommerce Art Sebastian has been named the 2018 recipient of Western Michigan University's (WMU) Adrian Trimpe Distinguished Service Award. Named after the founding chair of WMU’s College of Business, the award is given to individuals who have dedicated “extraordinary time and effort to the improvement and enrichment of the program and its students.”
Meijer is seeking candidates in all departments for its new store in Warren, Mich., which is expected to open this summer near the intersection of East 10 Mile and Schoenherr Roads. The 300 positions available include clerks and cake decorators to customer service, cashiers, receiving and meat cutters. Starting pay will be based on experience level and specific skills.
Meijer has donated $4,360 in Simply Give cards to support the Montcalm County Food Drive. The cards will be distributed to the 15 local food pantries serving Montcalm County residents to help replenish their shelves. Nadine Jerome, Greenville Church of the Nazarene’s Food Pantry coordinator, accepted the Simply Give food cards on behalf of the Montcalm County Food Drive from Chereise Farleigh, Meijer’s retail administrative assistant March 2.
A new chain retailer in the Fox Valley will be holding a hiring event next week. Meijer will be opening its new store in Grand Chute this spring and is looking to fill more than 150 positions. The hiring event will be at Marion College, 720 W. Association Drive, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1. Potential candidates can apply for available positions throughout the day and be interviewed on-site.
In 2017, Meijer’s Simply Give Campaign was able to raise $87,400 for St. Vincent de Paul’s Emergency Food Pantry. According to Feeding America, $1 equals 10 meals so that equates to 874,000 meals provided by the generous Alpena community. The way that the Simply Give campaign works is that customers at Meijer purchase $10 gift cards that go directly to St. Vincent de Paul. Three times a year, the campaign is active for weeks at a time.
