A pair of large West Michigan employers have been named among the nation’s top corporations for inclusive disability policies and practices. Walker-based Meijer and Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation have been recognized by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) as one of the 2019 Disability Equality Index (DEI) “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.

We'll it's almost that time again, school is almost back in session. And that means new school supplies. Tuesday the Bowling Green Fraternal Order of Police held their annual Shop with a Cop event at Meijer in Bowling Green.

A food donation program at Meijer has allowed Holland's 16th Street store to present Hamilton food pantry Hungry For Christ with a sizable donation of more than $20,480.

Oscar Hernandez, a food safety manager at the West Chester Meijer location, is starring in a 15-second “Quality is No Accident” commercial for the chain in which he is examining an avocado. While being a short commercial, his service to Meijer has been extensive for the short amount of time he has worked there.

The Meijer Simply Give program surpassed $50 million in donations following contributions from the 2019 spring campaign that coincided with the sixth annual Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.

As teachers gear up for back-to-school season, Meijer is making it a little easier by offering a 15-percent discount on classroom essentials to teachers. The teacher discount applies to all Meijer stores and extends all summer long and into the school year, from now through Sept. 28.

The Detroit Red Wings' 4th Annual Street Hockey Summer Tour, presented by Meijer, is once again traveling throughout the state of Michigan in July to take over the parking lots of Meijer locations to host free street hockey clinics for children ages 7-12.

Disability:IN recognizes Meijer as the best place to work for disability inclusion for the third year in a row. This recognizes Meijer "as a company that champions a culture of inclusion for people with disabilities and continues to improve its policies and practices in the space," according to a press release. 

The idea was simple: Lower healthcare costs by giving away free drugs to anyone who needs them.
The concept was a hit. The Grand Rapids grocery giant Meijer is chalking up a major milestone: It’s handed out 50 million free prescriptions to patients throughout the Midwest — 2.3 million last year in Michigan alone.

Meijer pharmacies have hit a major milestone when it comes to helping customers lower their healthcare costs.
According to the company, its Free Prescription Drug Program reached 50 million prescriptions filled since it was launched in 2006.
