For all of your back-to-school needs, you don't need to look any farther than Meijer!

As many students in the area are starting a new school year in a matter of days, Meijer in Oregon and other local stores are expecting a boost in shoppers looking for school supplies.

If you're a last minute shopper and you haven't gotten your back to school shopping done yet, no need to worry. There are plenty of deals you can take advantage of at Meijer on Grape Road in Mishawaka.

Months after plans for the new Beaumont corner at 13 Mile and Woodward were announced, the first business there is officially open. Wahlburgers opened its fourth location in Michigan at the intersection Thursday. 

The Meijer Simply Give program surpassed $50 million in donations following contributions from the 2019 spring campaign that coincided with the sixth annual Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.

When kids interact with a police officer, it may not always be for a good reason, which is why the Bowling Green Fraternal Order of Police makes it a point every year to reach out to them in a positive way. For the 15th year in a row, FOP hosted its "Shop with a Cop" event (July 29) that provides local kids and teachers the opportunity to pick out back-to-school supplies at Meijer, free of charge.

The tax-free shopping holiday kicked off at midnight and will run through 11:59pm Sunday night. School supplies are the biggest draw. However, teachers and parents aren't the only ones who can score big. If you play your cards (or rather coupons) right, you could get stuff for free.

Many people are taking advantage to stock up on school supplies as tax-free weekend kicks off.
All supplies less than $20 each and clothes less than $75 each qualify for the discount.

Area Meijer shoppers today can skip the line with a new scan-as-you-go tool launching in stores. Shoppers who download the Meijer Mobile App can scan and bag their items as they shop, which will add each item to a running total that can be viewed throughout the shopping trip.

Customers of Muskegon-area Meijer stores gave over $72,000 to local food pantries to spend at the Grand Rapids-based retailer’s stores. During Meijer’s spring Simply Give campaign, customers across the Midwest donated more than $2.5 million to local food pantries. Since 2008, customers have donated more than $50 million.

A pair of large West Michigan employers have been named among the nation’s top corporations for inclusive disability policies and practices. Walker-based Meijer and Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation have been recognized by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) as one of the 2019 Disability Equality Index (DEI) “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.

We'll it's almost that time again, school is almost back in session. And that means new school supplies. Tuesday the Bowling Green Fraternal Order of Police held their annual Shop with a Cop event at Meijer in Bowling Green.

A food donation program at Meijer has allowed Holland's 16th Street store to present Hamilton food pantry Hungry For Christ with a sizable donation of more than $20,480.

Oscar Hernandez, a food safety manager at the West Chester Meijer location, is starring in a 15-second “Quality is No Accident” commercial for the chain in which he is examining an avocado. While being a short commercial, his service to Meijer has been extensive for the short amount of time he has worked there.

As teachers gear up for back-to-school season, Meijer is making it a little easier by offering a 15-percent discount on classroom essentials to teachers. The teacher discount applies to all Meijer stores and extends all summer long and into the school year, from now through Sept. 28.

The Detroit Red Wings' 4th Annual Street Hockey Summer Tour, presented by Meijer, is once again traveling throughout the state of Michigan in July to take over the parking lots of Meijer locations to host free street hockey clinics for children ages 7-12.

The residents of Fremont now have a Meijer Supercenter for shopping.

Meijer on Tuesday announced home delivery service in the Cleveland area. The news comes a week after the opening of Meijer’s three new supercenters  in Avon, Mentor and Stow.

The LPGA Tour took a pretty hefty leap of faith in committing to suburban Grand Rapids in 2014, marking the first major professional golf-tour stop in the state since the PGA Tour's Buick Open folded up shop in 2009. And it's been quite the success, with record attendance of around 55,000 last year, and hoping to top it again when the world's best female golfers tee it up at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont from June 13-16.

The Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give isn't just a way to watch some of the top female golfers in the world, it's an event that helps restock shelves of food pantries across the Midwest.

Meijer marked its entrance into the Northeast Ohio market by opening three stores across the region, and making donations to several community organizations and schools.

Meijer Store Director Jessica Daniels-Warner presents Escanaba St. Vincent de Paul Pantry Manager Barbara Van Ermen with a donation of $5,000 in gift cards at the Escanaba Meijer store. The gift cards will be used by the pantry staff to purchase items for those in need in the area. According to Daniels-Warner, Escanaba St. Vincent de Paul is the heart of the community. Meijer wanted to give back to show its appreciation to the community.

It is a partnership aimed at keeping families fed here in the Wabash Valley. Catholic Charities and Meijer have announced a continued effort to fight hunger. It is part of the 'Simply Give' campaign.

Meijer continues making bets on bricks-and-mortar retail in Ohio with the opening Tuesday morning of supercenters in Stow and two other Northeast Ohio communities.

Meijer has opened up a new express convenience store -- but best of all, there's free ice cream. The convenience store concept is in front of Meijer's Knapp’s Corner supercenter. It officially opening Friday, May 10.

A revamped gas station is now open on a major traffic corridor. Meijer opened a Meijer Express today at 1999 E. Beltline Ave. NE in Grand Rapids. The station has 24 fuel pumps, including diesel and E-85, and a larger parking area than the previous gas station.

Chevel Shepherd will headline this year’s Grand Taste Garden at the Meijer LPGA Classic next month at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont.

In addition to the $1.1 million that last year's Meijer LPGA Classic raised for regional food pantries, the 2018 tournament champ donated a third of her winnings to the cause. So Yeon Ryu donated $100,000, saying she was moved by the mission and that encouraged her to play harder.

Grocery chain Meijer is now offering its technology-driven checkout system at all of its Wisconsin stores.

Between working, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids, moms have a lot on their plate. With Mother’s Day just over a week away, local Meijer stores wanted to do something special to help mom out.

Doctors and pharmacists are encouraging customers to rid their homes of leftover and expired medication today, which is designated National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Meijer opened its 11th Wisconsin store today in Sheboygan at 924 N. Taylor Drive. The new 155,00-square-foot store is one of the five new Meijer supercenter stores to open in the Midwest this year.

Two months after launching a Consumer Drug Take-Back Program in each of its 241 supercenters across the Midwest, Meijer announced today that it has helped dispose of more than four tons of unwanted and potentially hazardous medications. “The response since installing the kiosks in all of our pharmacies is a strong indication that our customers appreciate having a safe and easy way to properly dispose of unused, unwanted or expired medications,” said Jason Beauch, Vice President of Meijer Pharmacy. “If you live near any Meijer store in the Midwest, then you have easy access to this new service.”

ROSSFORD, Ohio — National Drug take back day is Saturday, April 27, 2019. But if you can't make it to one of the drop off locations, Meijer is able to take your unwanted medications year round. A special drop-off kiosk has been set up near the pharmacy at each Meijer location.

One program with Meijer donated additional money to food pantries in response to a record breaking year of donations. ABC 10’s, Caylee Kirby got to learn about the program and what it is doing to help the Marquette community.

The Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul each received $5,000 from Meijer in Marquette Township on Tuesday. The donations come from Meijer’s “Simply Give Program,” which aims to fight hunger in local communities. "Being a food company, it's very important for us and it's very important for the community to support those food pantries. We run a Simply Give Program throughout the year,” said Meijer Store Director, John Spaulding.

The Meijer family donated more than $2 million to its Simply Give program for food pantries. The donation will be divided equally between the more than 400 food pantries participating in the program.

Since starting the program in 2008, Meijer’s “Simply Give” program has raised nearly $48 million for local food pantries through donations from customers. In 2018, a program record of more than $8.5 million was raised.

Meijer has announced the opening date for its new store near Fremont. A ribbon-cutting will be held May 21 to mark the opening of the store on S. Green Avenue north of W. 48th Street, just west of Fremont. There will also be a grand opening celebration with special deals and events starting May 26.

Meijer was fond of saying he wasn’t interested in having the family name on a store that wasn’t also part of the community where it had established roots. Throughout the past year, Bradley and the surrounding region has discovered that is more than just idle chatter.

Meijer has announced the opening date for three supercenters slated to open in Northeast Ohio. The three Meijer stores in Avon, Mentor, and Stow are expected to open on Tuesday, May 14. “We’re extremely excited to open the doors to our newest stores here in Northeast Ohio,” said Tom Wilson, Regional Vice President, Meijer.

The opening date for Northeast Ohio Meijer supercenters was announced April 1. Stores will open in Mentor, Stow and Avon May 14, according to a press release. The news comes about a year after demolition began on the former Super Kmart that the Mentor store replaced.

The Meijer LGPA Classic for Simply Give is looking for more volunteers than ever to support its tournament that was recently named the Best Family Experience on the LPGA Tour. Tournament officials opened volunteer registration today with a “Refer a Friend” program to secure 900 volunteers for the sixth annual tournament, held June 10-16 at Blythefield Country Club.

Tickets for the 2019 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give and its three-day food event, Grand Taste, are available online. The sixth annual tournament will be held June 11-16 at Blythefield Country Club.

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Mejier is opening up a new store in Sheboygan soon. Jeff Kieztman is the store director and say there's lots to offer at Mejier - and the new business has already employed around 300 people from the Sheboygan area.

Looking to provide a greater fan experience for spectators, tournament officials have opted to reroute the course for this year's Meijer LPGA Classic.

A new Meijer supercenter in Sheboygan will open April 25. While weekly Meijer sales at the new supercenter begin when doors open at 7 a.m. on April 25, the store will also feature special promotions and events as part of its grand opening celebration, beginning April 28. The Meijer gas station for the store will officially open on March 28.

Meijer announced Tuesday it has rolled out its new Shop & Scan mobile shopping checkout program to its 18 suburban Chicago stores.

The Meijer LPGA Classic is fast approaching, and organizers say they need a helping hand. About 900 volunteers are needed for the tournament named the Best Family Experience on the LPGA Tour.

The underlying reason why people lace up those sneakers for the Meijer LPGA Classic 5K Run and Walk will never change: to put food on pantry shelves. But in addition to this year, one thing that will change is the competitive side to things.

Meijer said it expects to move one million paczkis ahead of the Mardi Gras holiday, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday.

MARQUETTE — This afternoon, Northern Michigan University and Meijer held their grand opening of the Meijer Student–Athlete Refueling Station located in the Superior Dome.

Many people have old prescription drugs taking up space in medicine cabinets, but those drugs can be dangerous to keep around. Meijer stores across Michigan have launched a drug take back program, meaning shoppers will see locked boxes at every Meijer Pharmacy in the state. You can now drop off your medications during regular pharmacy hours with no questions asked, without needing to talk to a pharmacist.

Getting rid of any unused, unwanted or expired medications is now easier, thanks to Meijer's drug take-back program. The company has kiosks for customers to properly dispose of medications for free. There is a kiosk in all 241 Meijer supercenters across the Midwest.

The largest tenant in Beaumont hospital’s Woodward Corners development at 13 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak is a new concept for retail giant Meijer. Called Woodward Corner Market, the 40,000-square-foot store will offer groceries without the other consumer merchandise found in Meier superstores, said Peter Heinz, director of strategic growth for Meijer. “Our focus is on local value and fresh” food, he said. “We’ll have about 20,000 items in the store. “

Neighbors have known for a while that restaurants, a grocery store and more are soon coming to the corner of 13 Mile and Woodward. Thursday Beaumont Health officials announced which retailers will be setting up shop. Meijer snagged the coveted grocery store spot, and will be operating the 40,000-square-foot space as Woodward Corner Market. Woodward Corner Market will feature a vast assortment of fresh food, local, artisan groceries, and Meijer and national brand products at low prices.

Meijer Stores LP has begun hiring more than 900 workers for its new stores in Avon, Mentor and Stow. On Jan. 9, the company announced its online job portal is open for applicants. The three stores are under construction now and will open in spring, expanding Meijer’s presence in northern Ohio. “Foundations are set, floors are poured and the walls are up at each of our new northeast Ohio stores," said Regional Vice President Tom Wilson. "So every day, we’re a little bit closer to opening our first three locations in Greater Cleveland.

New Meijer stores in Avon, Mentor and Stow are set to bring more than 900 jobs to Northeast Ohio communities. The stores are expected to open in late spring, according to the company.

A West Michigan retailer is in the holiday spirit. For the fifth year in a row, Meijer executives and store directors played Santa as part of the retailer’s “Very Merry Meijer,” a one-day event to surprise an unsuspecting customer at each Meijer store by paying for his or her entire shopping cart. The Meijer cashier who handled the surprise also is gifted with a $100 Meijer gift card.

In the world of Dr. Seuss, it was the Grinch who stole Christmas. But at Amita Health Alexian Brothers Women and Children's Hospital in Hoffman Estates, the tables were turned. Sure enough, it was the Grinch who brought Christmas to young patients and their families earlier this month in the hospital's pediatric unit.

Is your Christmas shopping not quite complete? Fear not. FOX6's Kasey Chronis spent the morning of Christmas Eve -- Monday, Dec. 24 -- at the Meijer in Waukesha -- where shelves are stocked with last-minute gifts for everyone on your list.

Two companies were recognized for giving families a happier holiday at the State Capitol Wednesday. Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley joined representatives from Meijer and Hormel to celebrate the 6,000 hams the companies donated to Michigan food banks. All of the hams will go to families in need this holiday season.

On Saturday, Lexington police went to Meijer on Reynolds Road to assist kids with holiday shopping. "It's all through donations that we can have this wonderful interaction and this great experience with these kids and be able to give back," said Sgt. Jeremiah Davis.

The Lafayette Fire Department held its annual “Shop with a Firefighter” at the east side Meijer in Lafayette. More than 75 kids partnered with Lafayette firemen as they filled their carts with items. “Shop with a Firefighter” serves the purpose of making sure kids in the community have what they need for the colder season.

It was like visiting Santa’s workshop at the North Pole. Shelves were stocked with Barbies, Lego sets, model cars, Nerf footballs, L.O.L. Surprise dolls and more as excited children selected their favorite toys for Christmas. On the evening of Dec. 5, members of the Warren Fire Department played Santa Claus by taking 30 Van Dyke Public Schools elementary school students shopping at the Meijer store at 12 Mile and Mound roads.

It didn’t take long for their carts to fill up with Nerf guns, Legos, and games, but there were more practical items, too, such as disposable diapers and baby food. Nine-year-old Emma bought some canned goods for the food drive at her school, Nicholas selected art supplies, and 17-month-old Zieyeal opted for a “Tickle Me Elmo,” while other kids shopped for hats and candles – Christmas gifts for their dad and mom. This was the fourth year that Meijer hosted “Heroes Helping Heroes” – its annual gift giving event, in which it partners with the sheriff’s department, the Northwest Homer Fire Protection District and the Lockport VFW Post 5788.

It was hard to tell who was having more fun or was more excited Saturday — the 70 members of the Kenosha Police Department or the elementary school kids they were helping during the annual Shop with a Cop program held at Meijer.

As a kid, waking up early in the morning to go shopping doesn't seem like a lot of fun. But it is when you have a chance to ride in a police car or even a fire truck to come out and pick out some of your favorite toys for your friends and family. Kids told News 10's Alani Letang that it's all worth it. "I got nervous at first since I didn't really know them. But it turned out to be really, really fun," said Rebekah O'Byrne, shopped with a hero.

This holiday season, local law enforcement is making sure that everyone in the family gets a Christmas gift. 79 kids traveled to Meijer from the Fraternal Order of Police Lima Lodge where they were paired with an officer so that they could shop for both Christmas presents and essentials. All of the money comes from community support. Since 2008, 627 children have benefited from the program.

The Columbus Meijer located on Hamilton Road previously had a liquor license to sell beer, wine, and low-proof liquor. Now, the store says they are selling high-proof liquor. There are 477 Contract Liquor Agencies in Ohio that can sell high-proof spirits, and 11 more are scheduled to open in the coming months. The City of Columbus currently has only 32 Contract Liquor Agencies.

"Breaking down barriers" between local youth and emergency services workers is a benefit to any community. That's the premise behind Gratiot County Child Advocacy's "Shop with a Hero" program.

The Fort Wayne area Toys for Tots program got a donation of $18,000 in toys Thursday morning thanks to the people at Dana Inc. "It's just heartwarming to know that we are able to give joy and a smile to a little girl or boy on Christmas morning by giving them a brand new toy," drive coordinator Sunny Helstrom explained. The staff raised the money through raffles and donations. Employees, retired workers and family members rushed through the isles at Meijer on Illinois Road, filling carts full of toys, art supplies, movies, sporting goods and other gifts.

Elk Grove Township is partnering with the Rolling Meadows Meijer store, located at 1301 Meijer Drive, for the grocer's yearly 'Simply Give' program. Now through December 29, 2018, area residents can shop at Meijer and donate funds at the checkout counter to help stock the shelves of the Township food pantry, which serves nearly 200 in-need families each month.

Planning to buy toys this holiday season? You can do good by making your purchase at Meijer. Each toy purchased will give back to local children in need. Meijer promises to donate up to $400,000 through customer purchases made in the Meijer Toy Department now through December 1.

On Sunday morning, the Meijer on Lake Michigan Drive hosted a Toys for Tots shopping spree. The store donated $5,000, and volunteers purchased gifts for some of the difficult to serve age groups.

Love in Action announced a partnership with Meijer this holiday season to provide hunger relief to local families through the Grand Rapids-based retailer’s customer-driven food pantry donation program, Simply Give.
