Meijer Opens New Supercenter in Warren
June 28, 2018

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Meijer opened a new 155,000-square-foot supercenter today in Warren, Mich., bringing the community a second location that features low prices on high-quality merchandise, fresh produce delivered daily and a full-service pharmacy that makes family health care a priority.

The new store is also launching Meijer Home Delivery today to households throughout Warren, Eastpointe, Harper Woods, and Roseville. The popular service features an online shopping experience that allows customers to shop digitally for groceries and general merchandise and have their orders personally shopped and delivered store-to-door within a few hours, or when it’s most convenient. The service is now offered from all 44 Meijer locations in Southeast Michigan. Customers can sign up for a free two-week trial and get $15 off their first order at ShopMeijer.com.

“We are pleased to provide Warren with a second store featuring our special combination of service, selection and quality at lower prices,” Executive Chairman Hank Meijer said. “If we’re just another retailer in the community, we’re not doing our job right, so we look forward to providing a store that supports the community and is welcoming to all our neighbors.”

The store’s first day of business featured a ribbon-cutting event featuring comments from Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley and attended by Senator Steve Bieda, State Representatives, John Chirkun and Patrick Green, and Meijer leadership. The store also demonstrated its commitment to the community by making a donation to Lord of the Harvest Church. Warren Store Director Cindy Maxey presented Pastor Mike Osminski a check for $25,000 to help support its Emergency Food Pantry.

Located at 25225 Schoenherr Rd., the new Warren Meijer is open 24 hours a day and built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, using recycled materials for construction and LED lighting sensors to reduce energy consumption. It is one of six new Meijer supercenters and 20 remodel projects for additional stores in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio this year.

As part of its ongoing community support, Meijer donates more than 6 percent of its net profit to charitable organizations annually, and each of its stores works with local food pantries and banks to help fight hunger at the local level. Since 2008, the retailer’s Simply Give program has generated more than $37 million for its food pantry partners throughout the Midwest.

The grocery options that Meijer offers to shoppers include more than 600 varieties of farm-fresh produce, including 150 USDA-certified organic items, and a full-service meat department that features fresh seafood, Certified Angus Beef, and custom cuts of meat delivered seven days a week. The store also offers a Starbucks, as well as grab-and-go convenience items, featuring hand-tossed pizza, BBQ sandwiches and fresh sushi made daily.

In addition to the retailer’s traditional grocery offerings, Meijer brings a specialty store approach to its one-stop shopping experience. Everything from women’s apparel, where on-trend styles can be found in every size on the same rack at the same price, to beauty care, an expansive baby selection, and a pet department that offers 200 pet toys, 500 varieties of treats for dogs and cats, and premium foods from Blue Buffalo, Iams, Nutro and Rachael Ray.

The store’s new pharmacy features a drive-thru pick up and the company’s free prescription program. The unique Meijer program helps customers save money by offering select prescriptions for free, including leading oral generic antibiotics with a special focus on prescriptions most often filled for children as well as prenatal vitamins, and medications for those with diabetes and high cholesterol. Since its inception in 2006, the program has filled more than 45 million free prescriptions, saving Meijer customers more than $600 million.

As part of its grand opening celebration, the new Meijer store will feature a variety of events beginning Sunday, July 1. The first 200 customers to enter the store after 7 a.m. Sunday will receive a Meijer mystery gift card with a value of $5, $10 or $20.

“Our teams have exceeded expectations every step of the way as we prepared to bring this second Meijer location to Warren,” Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said. “Our top priority is to serve customers and ensure they have the best shopping experience. This includes offering the freshest products and best customer service, as well as providing numerous ways to personalize the way they shop our stores.”
