Allies for Our Communities: How Meijer TMRGs Are Giving Locally
February 20, 2024

Our team members have a passion for supporting their local communities – it’s who we are. And through our companywide Meijer Team Gives program, our Team Member Resource Groups (TMRGs) also have the opportunity to make an impact around causes important to them. For our TMRG, MOSAIC, they chose The Diatribe in Grand Rapids, Mich. and The Joseph Project in Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan, donating $5,000 to each organization for the most recent Meijer Team Gives program.

Our MOSAIC TMRG is a community for team members comprised of varying backgrounds, cultures, and faith traditions to connect, support, and respect shared experiences and valued differences.

The Diatribe is a nonprofit community organization that provides arts education and mentorship to youth in Grand Rapids. Their mission is to inspire youth to achieve their full potential through creative expression. Our donation will help The Diatribe provide scholarships for students who otherwise could not afford their programming. Our continued support of The Diatribe helps ensure all children have access to arts education, regardless of their family’s income.

“The Meijer Team Gives program is just one of the many ways we partner year ‘round with organizations that positively impact underserved and underrepresented communities in our footprint,” said Victor Ramirez, Recruiter at Meijer and MOSAIC TMRG member. “For many years, I’ve been connected with The Diatribe’s staff, so being able to give and support their mission is incredibly humbling.”

The group’s second donation went to The Joseph Project, a southeast Michigan-based organization that  that connects human trafficking survivors with pro bono legal services. It is inspired by the Biblical account of history’s earliest recorded survivor, Joseph, who transitioned from exploitation to empowerment with God’s help.

“This is MOSAIC’s second year participating in Meijer Team Gives and it’s always great to see what organizations resonate most with our team members,” said Carla Hendon, Director of Indirect Procurement and Supplier Inclusion at Meijer and MOSAIC TMRG Co-Lead. “These organizations are so broad and diverse, which makes it an even more inspiring opportunity. It’s always great to see and something we look forward to doing every year.”

The Diatribe and The Joseph Project demonstrate their commitment to strengthening the fabric of our communities and by empowering our team members to choose organizations they are passionate about, we are grateful to be making a meaningful impact on a local level. Meijer Team Gives continues to do incredible work in our communities, and our TMRGs are proud to be a part of it.
